Annual Danny Burns Memorial Feed the Hungry Benefit Another Great Success.

By MICHAEL VIENS

VANCOUVER - The evening was advertised to start at 4 PM - an hour earlier than last year to accommodate the earlybirds - but there was still a good crowd rolling in early to get good seats. Steph and Kevin Boggan, Karen Kelm and Irene Slater all took shifts cheerfully welcoming everyone at the door and boxes for food donations quickly filled to be whisked away to the back to make room for more.

FEED THE HUNGRY organizer and leader of the Blackthorn group, Michael Viens with Anne (Danny Burns' sister), and Stan Lewis of the Route 66 group.

By 6 PM the Wolf & Hound was replete with people enjoying the great entertainment, food and good cheer. By night's end, a raft of door prizes had been given away and we had tallied over $3,400 and a trunk load of food donations for the Union Gospel Mission.

Route 66 got things swinging shortly after 4 PM and we made our way well into the night with a terrific lineup of local Celtic talent including: The Rogues 'n Tinkers, the BC Regiment Irish Pipes and Drums, Blackthorn, Mutiny Gone Overboard, Brian Flanagan, Ballyhooley and Three Row Barley.

Through all the great entertainment, flowed the fine fare and good cheer supplied by Jacquie and all the wonderful, hard-working staff at the Wolf & Hound: Kathleen, Natalie, Meaghan, Tom, Vincent, Leslie, Hamilton and Toby as that jolly old elf.

Maurice McElrea, President and Bruce Curtiss, Senior Chaplain of the Union Gospel Mission offered their gracious thanks on behalf of the people and programs that would benefit from the proceedings.

I had received a few inquiries about volunteering at the UGM and Maurice indicated that they are always looking for volunteers throughout the year. Anyone interested can contact Joanne Anderson, Volunteer Manager at (604) 253-3323 Ext. 321.

My heartfelt thanks go out to all the musicians, friends and staff without whom the night would not have been possible and to everyone who took the time out of their busy pre-Christmas schedule to share the night with us and help make it such a success.
