A Five-Concert Christmas Series for Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir

VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir helps celebrate Christmas with another five-concert series, beginning December 5 at the White Rock Baptist Church.

Last year nearly 2,000 people were entertained by a variety of traditional carols, both sacred and secular, along with contemporary Christmas music, interspersed with readings appropriate to the season.

Once again, the VWMC has put together a program with wide appeal, including a modern arrangement of Good King Wenceslas, the spiritual Mary Had a Baby, and a rollicking version of Jingle Bells.

Did you know that Deck the Hall is a Welsh carol? Well it is, and they sing that too.

This year's readings come from Dickens (but not A Christmas Carol), Slavomir Rawicz's The Long Walk and the 1938 movie classic, A Christmas Story.

Melanie Adams, a member of Vancouver's acclaimed music intima, will appear as guest soloist. The choir's new CD, Sounds of Christmas will also be available, with 16 studio quality recordings of Christmas favourites.

Outstanding youth choirs from around the Vancouver area will share the stage at four concerts.

The finale on December 15 at New Westminster's Massey Theatre will feature the renowned Winter Harp performing on traditional instruments to accompany the vocals of Lori Pappajohn and Rachel Landrecht.

The other performances are on December 8 in St. Andrew's Wesley United Church and December 14 at Shaughnessy Heights United Church in Vancouver and at the Surrey Arts Centre on December 11.

Tickets are available from any choir member, from the Massey Theatre Box Office (for the December 15 concert) or from Ticketmaster. But you better hurry. The concert at the Surrey Arts Centre on December 11 has already sold out.
