VANCOUVER - There was a great turn-out on September 8 when the Stewart School of Irish Dance hosted a Tinker's Ball at All Saints Parish Hall in Coquitlam.

The event was a fundraiser to help refurbish over 100 Irish dance costumes which were originally purchased in 1997. The original Irish dance costume would have cost somewhere in the region of $1,200, and it was estimated that it would cost approximately $350 to refurbish each dress.

There was a great turn-out for the Tinker's Ball and the well-organized event was great fun. A lot of work and planning went into making it a successful night starting with the well-decorated hall, and right down to the gypsy fortune tellers.

The fortune tellers would gaze into their crystal ball and tell your fortune, but only after you crossed their palm with silver to help with the fund raising. The gypsy fortune tellers were all former Stewart School Irish dancers. Music for the evening was provided by the very popular Sean and Marie Russell.

I had an opportunity to see and chat with many members of the Irish community that I hadn't seen for some time. It was a first-rate evening which everyone enjoyed immensely while helping to raise money and promote Irish culture in the community. What better way to help our young Irish dancers.
