VANCOUVER - The sixth annual Ceili Irish Music and Dance Camp held at Harrison Hot Springs from August 12 to August 18, was a great success!
Yet again, the superb roster of instructors drew musicians and dancers from near and far for a week of immersion of Irish arts and sports.
Three-time world Irish dance champion, Ellie Maguire; All-Ireland fiddle champion, Brian Conway; and Rose Flanagan, former fiddler for Cherish the Ladies were among the many brilliant instructors who led workshops for all ages and levels with a focus on Irish step dancing, traditional Irish music, and Gaelic games.
"It was touch and go in the first few years," recalls Ceili Camp Director Leslie Wilson, "but thanks to the tremendous support of the Irish community, the program is growing and we're seeing the beginnings of a new generation of Irish musicians.
"The dancers are exposed to a phenomenal level of dancing and instruction and for some, it's their only opportunity to dance to spontaneous traditional music. It's a great week and offers something for the whole family!"
Ceili 2007 joined forces with the De Danaan Irish Cultural Society which hosted the Open Eire Concert Series offering music sessions, concerts, and ceili dances nightly for the duration of Ceili Camp free to the public.
