A Sad Farewell to a Dear Friend

MIKE PAUL

By CATHOLINE BUTLER
It was a sad day at The Celtic Connection when we heard about the passing of our great friend Mike Paul. We all stopped to share our own special memories of him....Wasn't it only yesterday we were talking to him He left us so soon....so unexpectedly.

It was 16 years ago when I first met Mike Paul. We had just started The Celtic Connection and we had an office on West Hastings Street in Vancouver. Mike was the public relations officer with the Scottish Cultural Centre, and he stopped in to pay us a visit.

I was always impressed with Mike's energy and interest in all things Scottish. Through Mike we came to know so many of the Scottish artists that he promoted through The Celtic Connection.

Mike also introduced us to the B.C. Highland Games where he always took great pride making sure that everything ran smoothly on the day of the Games. I will always associate Mike Paul with the B.C. Highland Games.

For so many years now, I have lost count...Mike Paul faithfully delivered The Celtic Connection to North and West Vancouver. He was always enthusiastic about each new issue and would always stop to read the Scottish news section before heading out on his route.

Mike Paul was a great promoter and supporter of The Celtic Connection in so many ways. Many times when we needed encouragement Mike was there for us.

Not only has the Scottish community lost a great Scotsman but The Celtic Connection has lost a great friend ....we miss you Mike. Beannachd leat and thank you old friend.
