Club President Kim Tullock gave a great speech and thanked their main sponsors ProCoat Coatings and Jamesons Irish Pub for their contributions to the club. Thanks also went to Catholine Butler of the The Celtic Connection for being the driving force in organizing sponsorship and door prizes for the club and for sending extra copies of the paper for everybody to read on the night.
The club executive was also thanked for their hard work during the year.
The Calgary Chieftains had another great year on the pitch winning the opening tournament in Edmonton. The Vancouver tournament was next on the agenda in July and the Chieftains were once again victorious in the men's competition.
The Calgary men's team tied with Edmonton and Vancouver in the Western division championship with one win and one defeat each but lost out on a controversial count back of points to the Vancouver Harps.
The Chieftains made the final of the August long weekend tournament but to everyone's surprise it was not Edmonton or Vancouver in opposition, but the Calgary Kangaroos.
The local Aussie rules team were having a great year and showed that they could adapt well to the Gaelic game and shocked the Chieftains with the victory. The Chieftains were gracious in defeat congratulating the Kangaroos on a well earned victory.
The awards were given out by President Kim Tulloch and were: Men's Most Improved player: Brydan Grasher; Ladies Most Improved player Lauran Olsen; Ladies MVP: Mandy Tuohy; Men's MVP: Adrian Lagan; Club person of the year: Adrian Lagan.
