Food for Thought
to Nourish the Body and Soul
in our Daily Hectic Lives
By CATHOLINE BUTLER
VANCOUVER - Dublin-born Father Vincent Travers, the highly popular Dominican priest and prolific author, recently returned to Vancouver to promote his sixth book, The Road Home. Father Travers is the former pastor at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Vancouver.
Father Vincent wrote his most recent book while he was based in the West Indies for the past two years. This is a book that many people, including myself, have been waiting for him to write. It is different from his other five books, in that it is a book of reflections for each day of the year.
He hopes that those who travel down the road with him and read a reflection each day, will see a beginning and an end to it. There is a sense that we are all on the road from here to eternity. The road begins in time and ends in eternity, like the Celtic symbol...eternity, where there is no beginning and no end.
All proceeds from Father Travers' books go to the aid of the Third World. The proceeds of the Canadian and West Indies sales of Father Travers' book, In Touch With God,, totalled $160,000. He donated these funds to the island of Granada which had been devastated by Hurricane Ivan, and that money went to the poorest of the poor. The money collected in Ireland from the book, went to an AIDS project in Kenya.
The Road Home takes only a few minutes each day to read and the reflections are geared for today's busy society. In fact, Father Travers had picked the name Jesus In Blue Jeans for the book title, but someone had already beat him to that name.
Yet the reflections are profound, thought provoking, and give you food for thought to nourish the body and soul in our daily hectic lives. It's a book that you will want to leave on your coffee table or beside your bed for easy access.
With the Christmas season and gift-giving not too far away this would make a beautiful gift for a loved one or friend and it's a gift that they would use each day throughout the year. The book is only $15 dollars plus postage.
