Mary's Diary on the Day
of the Annual IWN Golf Tournament
By MARY MONKS
VANCOUVER - On the Sunday morning of the annual IWN golf tournament, the day is overcast and quite cool. Dressing appropriately, I set off for Mylora Golf Course in Richmond where, eventually, I arrive. This was after taking several wrong turns and stopping for directions at a couple of gas stations.

What is it about Richmond? Aware of my propensity for getting lost, I left home early, so I still arrived in plenty of time for the pre-golf chatter and coffee with other golfers, both serious (i.e. weekly) and casual (annual or thereabouts).
At tee off, the sun burst through the clouds, as if by arrangement with the organizing committee - or some higher authority. I should have expected this, of course, as the sun always shows up for our golf tournament.
After a pretty poor start, I begin to hit a few decent shots, and my putting earns me some compliments. The thought occurs that perhaps practicing before the tournament might have been beneficial. My team mates are obviously of like mind, as we make plans to golf monthly from now on so as to perform decently next year.
As always, it was a great day with much good humour, some great prizes, a tasty supper, and even some decent golf. Our organizing committee (Marie Morris, Noeleen Corr, Carol May, and Fiona Byrne) did their usual splendid job, and we thank them giving us such a good time.
Our organizing committee also sends a big and very sincere "thank you" to all those who contributed the prizes that crowned the efforts of the victorious and consoled the less successful. Your generosity greatly enhances our annual golf tournament, and we are really very grateful.
Our next event will be an afternoon tea in September/October. Watch The Celtic Connection for date and venue, or contact Deirdre O'Ruairc at (604) 538-6765, e-mail shamrockhome@shaw.ca. Until then, enjoy your summer, and stay safe.
