Standing ovations, sold out concerts, and rave reviews are the hallmarks of Winter Harp, an ensemble of harps, medieval instruments, fiddle, percussion, poetry and song. Join this world-class ensemble for a concert of heartwarming carols, songs and stories in celebration of the Christmas and winter season.
The musicians, dressed in gorgeous medieval attire, perform a hauntingly beautiful collection of music from well-known carols to Celtic, medieval and even flamenco. The stage is set with golden Celtic and classical harps, drums, tambourines, temple bells, violin, recorder.
This year you can expect an all-new concert with world-class musicians. Winter Harp's guest artist this year is none other than the highly acclaimed violin/fiddle player Oliver Schroer, well-known for his fiddling at the Vancouver Folk Festival.
"If you don't know Oliver, let's just say he's a giant in the fiddle world - both musically and literally (he is six-foot six-inches tall)," said Winter Harp director Lori Pappajohn.
Oliver has performed across North America and Europe. And he has recorded and performed with numerous leaders in the music world including Loreena McKinnett, Jesse Cook, Sylvia Tyson, Great Big Sea and Spirit of the West. Of his 45 album productions, eight have been nominated for Juno Awards, and two have gone Gold.
"Needless to say, we Winter Harp members are having a wonderful time working with Oliver," said Pappajohn. "We've got some great Celtic tunes, as well as some delightful carols. So hang onto your seats, because this will be a show you won't want to miss.
"So, in short, buy your tickets soon so you don't miss out."
In fact, some people have already missed out. Winter Harp's Courtenay concert (December 7) sold out in September. The Nanaimo concert (December 17) sold out in October and a second one has just been added. The Maple Ridge concert and several others are nearly sold-out. So don't delay, urges Pappajohn.
