New Stage Production Celebrates
Ireland's Legendary Pirate Queen
NEW YORK - A new epic musical adventure celebrating the legendary Irish Chieftain Grace O'Malley, one of the most legendary women in Irish history is about to come back to life.

Based on her real-life story, The Pirate Queen tells of a compelling, inspirational woman; a heroine who led an extraordinary life as a pirate, chieftain, lover and mother in Sixteenth-Century Ireland.
Commissioned and produced by Moya Doherty and John McColgan, the producers of Riverdance, this new musical combines classic storytelling and a sweeping score, with the powerful, vibrant traditions of Irish dance and song, to create a modern musical event that is both an historic romance and a timeless epic.
The world premiere for the production will be held at the Chicago Cadillac Palace Theater on October 3. This will be followed by Broadway previews beginning February 23, 2007 and opening on March 22 at Broadway's Hilton Theatre.
The Pirate Queen is based on the novel, Grania - She-King of the Irish Seas, by Morgan Llywelyn. The story immortalizes O'Malley's life as chieftain, mother and lover, and tells of her legendary meeting with Queen Elizabeth I.
The Pirate Queen, promises a feast of Irish and modern American dance with spectacular fight scenes - all against the backdrop of a score written by Tony Award winning duo Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schöönberg, who penned Les Misérables and Miss Saigon.
