Buddy Wasisname and The Other Fellers : The Essence of Being a Newfoundlander

By SHARON KEOUGH

VANCOUVER - The Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver played host to the unique musical and comedic presentation of the popular Newfoundland troupe, Buddy Wassisname and The Other Fellers! on March 25.

Living up to the name of this routine as “The Still Tickin’ Tour,” this truly talented trio (now a foursome with the addition of a bass player), kept the packed theatre in a continuous state of raucous laughter leaving no doubt that they are “Still Tickin’”

Beneath their on-stage antics however, lies a very real talent for witty and intelligent writing, a superb style of showmanship and excellent musical abilities. The audience was transported from howling laughter to “pin drop” silence in moments when the group played some of the more traditional Newfoundland songs.

To those of us from Newfoundland, Buddy Wasisname and The Other Fellers typifies the essence of being a Newfoundlander: the sense of fun and wit, the ability to laugh at ourselves and the deep appreciation for the Newfoundland music and traditions.

In today’s stress-filled world, a few hours of light hearted comedy and brilliant wit from these lads from the “Rock” will markedly reduce your stress level, allow you to keep your troubles at bay for a short time and will be just the medication that the doctor ordered.

Buddy Wasisname and The Other Fellers left the following day to perform throughout Alberta. They’re a very popular troupe here on the West Coast and we look forward to their next engagement.
