FEED THE HUNGRY: A Night of Great Music, Fine Fare and Good Cheer

By MICHAEL VIENS

VANCOUVER - The fourth annual Danny Burns Memorial Feed the Hungry Benefit held at the Wolf and Hound on West Fourth Avenue was another resounding success.

The evening was advertised to start at 5 PM and people started arriving by 4 PM to secure good seats. Steph and Kevin Boggan cheerfully welcomed everyone and boxes for food donations were quickly filled and whisked away to the back to make room for more.

By 7 PM the Wolf and Hound was replete with people enjoying the great entertainment, food and good cheer, and by the end of the night, the event tallied over $3,800 and a trunk load of food donations for the Union Gospel Mission.

JOANNE AND JAMES Carbin at the Feed the Hungry Benefit. BLUES SINGER Denny Clarke at the benefit (Denny was a great friend of Danny’s).

Route 66 got things swinging shortly after 5 PM. The Rogues n’ Tinkers took the stage to play a rollicking set and were joined by special guest jazz man Denny Clarke for a couple of great songs. The BC Regiment Irish Pipes and Drums marched through and played a rousing set.

Blackthorn were in fine form and were joined by guest piper Jim McWilliams. The latest incarnation of Ballyhooley played a solid traditional set featuring bouzouki, fiddle, uileann pipes and bodhran.

Although Mutiny Gone Overboard are older now then when they first started playing at Danny’s early fundraisers oh-so-many years ago, they’re still the youth of the event and have the energy to prove it. The Streels wrapped up the night keeping the dancers on the floor with their fun-filled set.

Through all the great entertainment, flowed the fine fare and good cheer supplied by Jacquie and all the wonderful, hard-working staff at the Wolf and Hound: Lara, Kathleen, Crystal, Natalie, Peter, Vincent, Cris, Hamilton, Tom and Toby aka Santa Claus.

Maurice McElrea, President and Doug Peate, Gift Planning Coordinator of the Union Gospel Mission offered their gracious thanks on behalf of the people and programs that would benefit from the proceedings.

Heartfelt thanks go out to all the musicians, friends and staff without whom the night would not have been possible and to everyone who took the time out of their busy pre-Christmas schedule to share the night and help make it a success. A special note of thanks to Shane Donnelly of Donnelly Landscaping for his generosity. See you all next year!
