Stage Production Spotlights Irish Legend Percy French

VANCOUVER - "If you cannot go to Ireland......let us bring Ireland to you...." says Calgary-based Brigid O’Shea. The County Clare native is a cast member of an authentic presentation called Gortnamona: The Life and Times of Percy French, which brings alive Irish culture, music, song, poetry and character.

BRIGID O’SHEA and Frank Talbot onstage in a performance of Gortnamona: The Life and Times of Percy French, a play based on the renowned Irish author, poet and songwriter.

The show will be staged in Vancouver this March 18-19 as part of the CelticFest celebrations. A full cast will travel from Alberta to present three shows at the Tom Lee Music Hall which revive the golden era of musical reviews. The production will focus on the life, love, work and antics of well-known Irish author, poet and songwriter, Percy French.

For those who may not know of the talented Percy French, when you see this heart-warming, ever-so-Irish production, you will love him for the man that he was and for the rich, illustrious legacy he left behind.

Each member of the cast of nine (six Irish, two Scottish and one Canadian) is passionate about promoting Irish culture in Canada and around the world. Brigid O’Shea said they are indebted to long time-producer and actor Frank Talbot, not only for writing a winning script, but also for leading them to aspire to greater heights than they had ever imagined.

They are equally grateful to the dedicated musical director of the Irish Choir, producer and musical director of Gortnamona, Anne Cowman. She is second to none when it comes to her magical ability to bring the piano succinctly alive, to sing, inspire and direct the solo singers of the cast far and beyond their own expectations.

Two members of the crew, Bruce and Vivian Smith have made this production available on DVD. Gratitude and appreciation is also extended to Steve Schroeter for a superb sound system.

This show has everything – drama, humour, poetry, music, songs and sketches. Three shows: March 18 at 2 PM and 7 PM. March 19 at 7 PM at the Tom Lee Music Hall. Suitable for families. Advance tickets are $15 and $18 at the door.
