Doolin's Is The Best Spot in Town
for Young Celts to Meet Each Other
By CATHOLINE BUTLER
VANCOUVER - Doolin's Irish Pub, located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, will celebrate their fourth anniversary on November 16. Right from opening day, Doolin's has been a popular destination and it soon became the best spot in town for young Celts to meet up in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I've heard of a number of successful marriages where the couple first met at Doolin's.

The pub has also won their share of awards, being nominated by Vancouver's Where magazine as "Most Memorable Pub," and The Georgia Straight as first-runner-up for "Best Pick-up for Females Seeking Males."
Doolin's features live music from Monday to Thursday, with D.J. Tyler on Friday and Saturday. There are always special weekly and monthly features taking place on food and beverage with lots of prizes.
Doolin's serves all the favourite Celtic food specialties, along with pastas, soup and sandwiches and a Dublin Brekkie until 4 PM. Two of their special signature dishes are, Dublin Lamb Shank and Guinness Beef Pie.
On Monday night football nights there are rib specials and every first Thursday of the month is kilt night. Celebrations are already being planned for Grey Cup Sunday on November 19.
Doolin's is also hockey headquarters with some unbelievable prizes and autographed pictures for lucky patrons. High definition televisions have just been installed to allow Doolin's patrons to further enjoy all their favourite sports.
A Christmas tree trimming party will be held on November 30, as well as New Year's Eve, Robbie Burns and of course the biggest celebration of the year....St. Patrick's Day.
The management and staff of Doolin's are part of the week-long Celtic Fest celebrations in March. The St. Patrick's Day parade winds its way down Granville Street, right past Doolin's. After the parade, if you're lucky enough to get through the door, you'll find a party in full swing at Doolin's. It seems like the whole parade just moves right into Doolin's where the celebration just keeps right on going.

EDYTHE CULLING is shown above celebrating her 90th birthday party with her son Blaine Culling, owner of Doolin's, The Cellar, and The Roxy (Granville Entertainment).

Another very popular event at Doolin's is the Guinness Perfect Pint Competition. Pubs from all over the Lower Mainland are invited to participate with the first round of pour-offs competitions taking place on November 29. The grand prize is a trip to Ireland and a VIP tour of the Guinness Brewery.
As with any successful business, there is always a lot of behind-the-scenes work that makes it happen, and Doolin's is no exception.
Christine Van is the promotions and marketing manager at Doolin's. Not only does she book all the entertainment and arrange special events, she also books the entertainment for The Cellar nightclub and the Roxy, which are all part of the Granville Entertainment Group.
Christine is a five-foot-four, 118-pound dynamo of energy with an outgoing and bubbly personality. She loves hockey and her favourite hockey team is first and foremost the Vancouver Canucks, followed closely by the Ottawa Senators and the Philadelphia Flyers. Christine also plays hockey on a women's hockey league where she plays left wing or defense...maybe that's where she gets all that energy to burn!
Jay Mangan is the manager at Doolin's and he is very proud of his County Cork Irish roots. Jay said that one thing that you will never hear during December is Christmas music, nor will you ever hear Country at Doolin's.
Between Doolin's and The Cellar (which is directly below the pub), they can accommodate from 10 to a couple of hundred people for bookings of parties, anniversaries, or birthdays. Right now they're taking bookings for Christmas parties and the catering costs start from a reasonable $12.99 up. So, there would be something to fit all budgets.
Doolin's Irish Pub is located at 654 Nelson at Granville Street in downtown Vancouver. For more information call (604) 605-4343, or check-out their website at: www.doolins.ca.
