Learn English Country Dancing

at Scottish Cultural Centre

VANCOUVER - Have you watched Pride and Prejudice or viewed a film based on a Thomas Hardy novel and wished you could join in the elegant dancing of the first or the frolicking steps of the latter?

Now is your opportunity to learn! We can't offer Colin Firth as a partner, but we can guarantee that under the tuition of Marie Disiewicz you will enjoy the many formations in dances such as Jacob Hall's Jig, written in 1690, or Impertinence, a more recent dance in the old-style, devised in 1990 by Fried de Metz Herman, but set to music by Handel.

The Duke of Kent's Waltz is one of the most graceful dances you will ever learn, but in contrast how about Tythe Pig or Mr. Beveridge's Maggot (believe it or not, dances featured in recent versions of Pride and Prejudice).

With music written by Handel, and more recently by the English composer Henry Purcell, you will have a rewarding time during the classes.

Starting on September 7 from 9 PM, Marie will hold monthly classes at the Scottish Cultural Centre through to April 5, 2007. For more information, call Marie at (604) 574-7530.

On September 16, an English Country Dance Ball will take place at the Bellingham, Washington Seniors' Centre Auditorium, 315 Halleck Street, Bellingham, commencing at 7:30 PM.

Dress formal, historical costumes encouraged. Dancing to live music provided by "Up in the Air." All dances will be briefed. Tickets and programs are available on August 1. For more information, call Molly Faulkner at (360) 647-0391 or e-mail: maltha6995@aol.com.
