Ireland Monument Project Update:
Committee is Prepared to Move Forward
By BRENDAN FLYNN - VANCOUVER - The Irish Monument Committee (IMC) would like to ensure that all supporters are aware of the outcome of the initial meeting with the Parks Board held on May 25.
The committee was provided with a clear direction by Parks Board officials on how to proceed in the planning of the Ireland Monument at Trout Lake. In simple terms, if the Ireland Monument complies with Parks Board regulations, the project can be completed.
The IMC would like to convey to all supporters that the completion of the Ireland Monument now lies in the hands of the Irish/Celtic people in western Canada. It is an opportunity to build and complete this project together at relatively little cost.
All committee members are very committed to the project and will ensure that the monument design complies with the wishes of the majority of all supporters. In the coming weeks, a member of the committee will contact supporters regarding financial contributions and monument design. An information letter will be issued to all supporters in July.
An account for the Ireland Monument Project is now open at the Royal Bank of Canada. For security, three members of the committee will be required to cosign any cheque written. No funds will be withdrawn from the account until the project is ready to proceed to the construction phase.
All supporters of the project are encouraged to complete their financial commitment of $100 each to the project by making their contribution at any branch of the Royal Bank of Canada. The total balance in the account will be forwarded to all supporters every 90 days.
The IMC intend that all interest credited to the account will be forwarded to the Celtic Society of Canada as a donation. Should the project not be completed, the committee will refund all monies to supporters less the cost of any costs incurred.
All cheques should be made payable to the Ireland Monument Project, account number 07440-003-100-711-1. Payment can be made at any Branch of the Royal Bank. Supporters are asked to notify a committee member so receipts can be issued for their contribution.
Supporters who wish to pay in four installments of $25 may do so. Full supporter status is not provided until the final installment is completed. Cheques can be mailed to 2342 East 27th Avenue, Vancouver, V5N 2X2.
Anyone requiring further information is encouraged to contact any of the following committee members: Brendan Flynn (604) 873-3167; Al McCabe (604) 942-6413; Teresa McDonnell (604) 270-2881; Roicin O'Connolly (604) 761-2157; Jim McCann (604) 765-1916.
