Ireland Well-Represented at European Festival

VANCOUVER - The Irish Women's Network had a very successful day at the European Festival at the Scandinavian Community Centre in Burnaby on May 27. Over 5,000 people attended this year's event and Ireland was well represented with a great display.

ON THE PODIUM at the opening ceremonies for the European Festival at the Scandinavian Community Centre are Deirdre O’Ruairc, the president of the Irish Women’s Network, holding the Irish flag, and Catholine Butler, the 2006 Irish Woman of the Year.

AT THE OPENING CEREMONIES for the European Festival, flags were carried up to the stage for member countries participating in the event.

Volunteers from the Irish Sports and Social Club, the Celtic Heritage Society, and the Irish White Rock Club all helped to sell advance tickets and worked in the Ireland booth during the day.

In the entertainment area, the Moore School of Irish Dance gave an excellent performance and they are always a big hit. In the evening, Three Row Barley was the featured entertainment at the dance and they were warmly welcomed by the audience.
