CELTFEST 2006: A Five Day International Summer School and Concert Series

NANAIMO - CeltFest 2006 is a five-day international summer school and concert series presented by the Celtic Performing Arts at Tigh-Na-Mara Resort, culminating in the Sunset and Stars Gala Concert at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo.

The CeltFest Kickoff Ceilidh will be held on July 8 at the Coast Bastion Inn, in downtown Nanaimo. This event is open to families and it is a social get-together featuring a sampler of some instructor student talent, fun and merriment to get things started.

From July 9 to 14 CeltFest 2006 Summer School will be held daily with evening performance ceilidhs 7 PM at Tigh-Na-Mara Resort in Parksville and open to the public by donation.

Registration now open for all ages and skill level programs: Highland, uilleann and Northumbrian bagpiping, snare, tenor and bass drumming, bodhran, fiddling, cello, penny whistle, Irish and Highland dancing and Scottish/Cape Breton step dance, guitar, Celtic harp, song and artwork and group ceilidh dance.

Champion pipers, drummers, fiddlers and dancers, along with acclaimed recording artists including Juno award nominees comprise the instructional faculty. Early bird tuition discounts are available until April 20.

The Sunset and Stars Gala Concert will be held on July 13 at the Port Theatre and Waterfront, Nanaimo. This includes the young, award-winning Scottish quartet Breabach; also from Ireland the lead understudy to Michael Flatley in the original Riverdance Glenn Simpson; champion piper Ken Eller from Ontario; current world champion Highland dancer David Wilton from Scotland; and 2004 fiddler-Juno nominee Pierre Shryer from Ontario……and many more!
