ALL IN THE NAME OF CHARITY – Nessa Flewelling was the auctioneer at the annual auction hosted by the Irish Women’s Network to support the Celtic Society of Canada benevolent fund. This non-profit organization provides short-term emergency assistance to families and individuals in our community. Nessa was tireless and most persuasive in getting the best price for every item on the block, including a bra shaped handbag, which she is shown above demonstrating to the great amusement of everyone gathered.

IRISH WOMEN'S NETWORK : Annual Auction a Huge Success

By DEIRDRE O'RUAIRC

VANCOUVER - The Irish Women's Network would like to extend a big thank you to the Irish community and friends for the large turn out in support of their annual auction in aid of the Celtic Society of Canada (helping Irish families in the lower main land in need).

It was the biggest turn out ever, and a big success financially, raising over $2,000 and socially, everyone had a great evening, enjoying a glass of wine, delicious cheese, and home-made brown bread and cakes.

A big thank you goes to Nessa Flewelling our auctioneer for the evening and also to all who donated items for the auction. Later in the evening we were entertained by Neal Ryan with a selection of Irish songs and songs from the Sixties.

The next events for the Irish women’s Network are the St. Patrick’s Day Parade – March 19 – meeting at Chateau Granville at 10 AM. All Irish women are needed to walk in the parade.

The Irish Women’s Network anniversary lunch and Irish Women of the Year Award 2006 will be held on April 30 (please note change of date due to Sun Run) at 12 Noon, $40 including tax and gratuities, at Hart House in Burnaby.

For details, call Deirdre at (604) 538_6765 or Geraldine (604) 451_4125. This is a very popular event and everyone is urged to make reservations early.
