Albano said, “who best to honour and lead the parade than Carole Taylor, who has played a major role in putting the ‘fun’ back into Vancouver and positioning this city on the world map, not to mention her other endless contributions to the community.”
Taylor is well-known both locally and nationally for a media career spanning two decades and her extensive work with B.C.'s public and private organizations. She was one of the first hosts of CTV's Canada AM, and later hosted CTV's W5, and CBC's Pacific Report.
Since 2001, Taylor has acted as chair of CBC/Radio-Canada, and has been a strong spokesperson for public broadcasting. Her public service spans nearly two decades. From 1986 to 1990, she was a member of Vancouver City Council. She has chaired the Neighbourhood, Cultural and Community Services Committee, the Task Force on Children, and the Greater Vancouver Regional District's Hospital Committee.
Taylor has served as chair of the Vancouver Board of Trade, the Vancouver Port Corporation, and Canada Ports Corporation. She has also served on the boards of HSBC Holdings, Canfor and Fairmont Hotels and others. As a community volunteer, Taylor has worked with the Vancouver Public Library, B.C. Children’s Hospital, the B.C. Institute of Technology, and S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
Her commitment to the “Spirit of Vancouver” campaign resulted in her being presented with the Harold J. Merilees Memorial Award in recognition of “an outstanding contribution to the awareness of the Greater Vancouver area to the world.”
Carole Taylor holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Toronto, and honourary degrees from Simon Fraser University, British Columbia Open University, and the B.C. Institute of Technology. She is an Officer of the Order of Canada.
She resides in Vancouver with her husband Art Phillips and has two children Christopher and Samantha.
Rita Albano said, “the staff, directors and volunteers at CelticFest Vancouver Society are very proud to welcome and honour Carole Taylor, who will lead the St. Patrick's Day parade in the VIP Vehicle on March 19 at 11 AM along Granville Street, downtown.
“Immediately after the parade, Taylor will be our keynote speaker at the Official Parade Ceremony, which will be held on the TD Plaza at Pacific Centre Mall, with Kevin Hayes from CKNW as the Master of Ceremonies.”
