JANE BYRNE

In her annual report to the membership the president stated that 2005 had been a significant year in the Society’s history. The roof of the heritage-listed Cambrian Hall had been repaired and paid for. The members expressed their thanks to Allan Hunter for his supervisory role in the roof repair process and to Barrie Hancock for his successful fund-raising efforts.

The president also thanked all those organizations and individual members who had contributed to the roof fund over the past two years. She especially thanked the Vancouver Orpheus Choir for their November benefit concert on behalf of the Society and Neville Thomas for the successful Celtic at the Cambrian event in November. The Welsh Weekend in November had also been a success.

Other officers elected at the Annual Meeting were Gaynor Evans as Treasurer, Eifion Williams as Secretary and Heather Davies as Membership Secretary. The immediate Past President is Tecwyn Roberts.

The Welsh Society’s Directors for 2006 are John Cann, Allan Hunter, Selwyn Jones, Mary Lewis and David Williams, who is also editor of the Cambrian News, the Society’s newsletter.

The next major event on the Society’s calendar is the annual St. David’s Day Dinner to be held this year on March 4. On the evening of March 1, the Red Dragon at the Cambrian Hall will be open to all those wishing to celebrate St. David’s Day. The traditional cawl, along with other refreshments and appropriate entertainment will be available.
