St. Patrick’s Festival, Dublin: Ireland’s Best Party Invites the World
DUBLIN - Much has changed in Ireland over the past 10 years with the introduction of the euro and the Celtic Tiger, but, more excitingly, St. Patrick’s Day, the day everyone wants to be Irish, has become a multi-day festival.
The French have Bastille Day but in Ireland there’s a multi-day festival, a truly creative carnival to showcase Irish talent to the world. In 2005, to celebrate its tenth birthday, St. Patrick’s Festival is inviting the world to enjoy an exciting program of events, which is literally bursting at the seams.
There is street theatre, music, dance and literature. There’s also a treasure hunt, visual art exhibitions, family fun and of course the best St. Patrick’s Day parade in the world, which this year welcomes innovative street theatre troupes, artists, dancers and marching bands from across the globe. Most of the events are free; all of them highlight the best Ireland has to offer.
More than one million people, including 300,000 visitors, join in the festival every year. And with more than 70 million people worldwide claiming Irish heritage, the guest list is huge. When it comes to throwing a party the Irish outshine the rest of the world, so come and be part of it all in 2005 and experience the welcome and the “craic” (Irish for fun) awaiting you in Ireland.
St. Patrick’s Festival runs from March 16 to 20. For more information, visit www.stpatricksday.ie, or to receive your own personal guide to St. Patrick’s Week in Ireland, call Tourism Ireland at 1-800-223-6470.
