Mark Your Calendar Now for Next Annual Golf Tournament
By CATHOLINE BUTLER
VANCOUVER - The second annual golf tournament for The Celtic Connection took place on September 30, at the Green Acres Golf Course in Richmond. This was an important fund raising event for The Celtic Connection and it was very satisfying to welcome almost double the number of participants over last year.

TERESA AND GEORGE McDonnell generously volunteered their time at the second annual The Celtic Connection annual golf tournament. George also organized a team to particpate. (Players not pictured but on his team were: Tom Stockwell and Bob Carsons.)

Although the weather leading up to the event was glorious autumn sun, there had been a torrential downpour the day prior, so there was some concern about the possibility of rain. But not to worry, the day was clear with perfect weather for golfing, allowing some entrants to wear shorts and t-shirts.
There was a great atmosphere among the golfers, with lots of laughter and the old “craic” and slagging going on. This set the tone for a most enjoyable day and carried on right through to the tallying of golf scores and prizes being given out at the end of the day.
We sincerely thank all those golfers who took part in our tournament and we send a very special thank you to all who sponsored holes and the various businesses and individuals who donated prizes, because you really made our golf tournament the success that it was.
The Celtic Connection gratefully acknowledges the following for their generous contribution as hole sponsors: West Limerick Holdings; Donnelly Landscapes; Mortgage Intelligence; Foggy Dew, Richmond; Foggy Dew, Coquitlam; New West Gypsum; and William Kelly & Sons.
We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of our prize sponsors: Black Pudding; British Butcher; British Home; Celtic Creations; Chapman Ice Cream; Cheshire Cheese, Dunbar; Cleary Insurance Agencies Ltd.; Colour Tech II; Corby’s; Doolin’s; Duncan O’Mahony, B.C. Lions; Elephant and Castle Pub; Foggy Dew, Richmond; Foggy Dew, Coquitlam; Guinness; Irish Fancy; Island Music; Jameson; Johnston Meier Insurance; J.P. Malone’s Neighbourhood Pub; Kal Tire; The Legal Alternative; Meridian Meats; Mr. Pickwick’s Fish and Chips; O’Hare’s Pub; Penny Lane Pub; Prussin Music; PW Trenchless; Steveston Hotel; Tartantown; The Wolf & Hound; Tom O’Flynn; Transcold Distribution; Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe; and the Elephant & Castle.
We thank Melissa and John Coughlan of TransCold Distribution for supplying our golfers with some delicious Breyer’s ice cream cones on the day and thanks also to West Coast Chocolate for supplying chocolates to give the golfers lots of energy and stamina for the course.
And last but not least, a very special thank you to George and Teresa McDonnell for all their help before and on the day of the tournament. George did a great job helping with our silent auction. When he decided the bids were on the low side for some of the items, he took matters into his own hands and as he said, “the auction became a not-so-silent auction.” Thanks for a great job George!
And not forgetting of course, our own Colleen Carpenter who can always be counted on to help out wherever needed. Many thanks Colleen!
It was very gratifying afterwards to hear from so many of our golfers who called or e-mailed to let us know how much they enjoyed the day, and particularly to hear that everyone was of the same opinion: It was a lot of fun.
Our third annual golf tournament will be held again at the Green Acres Golf Course on September 23, 2006. Please mark that date on your calendar and tell your friends to join us for another fun day. Many thanks to all of you!
