The Flying Lunch Doctor Offers A More Relaxed Pace

VANCOUVER - It’s a leisurely drive from Vancouver out to the Pitt Meadows Airport. The airport is right out in the country and a slower pace of life is enjoyed here. Only small planes land and take off from this facility.
I recently stopped by to speak to Mike Joyce, owner of the Flying Lunch Doctor restaurant, along with the Original Lunch Doctor in the town of Pitt Meadows. Mike came to Canada 32 years ago from Newcastle-on-Tyne in England where he started as a chef. He is proud of his Irish heritage and his grandfather is from Galway. The name Joyce is from the famous Joyce country after the celebrated Irish author James Joyce.
The Original Lunch Doctor has been in operation for the past 17 years and the airport Flying Lunch Doctor location for the past two years. “We have a lot more foot traffic at the Harris Road location,” said Mike, “with office workers, school children and people from the nearby car dealership dropping in for lunch and take-outs.”
At the airport Flying Lunch Doctor customers are mainly people who fly in for lunch to meet someone and locals who keep their planes at the airport. The restaurant is open for breakfast from 9 AM to 11:30 AM with fresh bread and homemade desserts and soup available daily. In the summertime an outdoor barbeque is available on the deck overlooking the runway on Wednesdays and Sundays from 11 AM to 2 PM.
The Flying Lunch Doctor also offers entertainment from 12 noon to 3 PM every Sunday, usually light jazz, pop, folk and a little rock and roll. Another aspect of the business is catering for weddings, barbeques and other special events.
If you’re looking for something just a little bit different, slower and a lot more relaxing, take a drive out to the Flying Lunch Doctor at the Pitt Meadows airport. Enjoy the delicious menu and fantastic scenery of the North Shore mountains.
