Live Irish Entertainment Every Friday Night at The Fox and Fiddle

SURREY - The Fox and Fiddle Restaurant and Pub is located in the Hampton Inn on the Langley Bypass in Surrey and it's a hopping place. The woman responsible for keeping the establishment buzzing is owner Leanne Busson.

I recently dropped in to speak to Leanne and get an update on upcoming events at her establishment. She said, “every Friday night we have live Irish entertainment with groups like Mutiny Gone Overboard, The Folly and Murphy’s Lagh who play here on a regular basis. They are really well-received by customers and we want to stay consistent with quality entertainers.
“What’s really great about the Celtic music is you get people from 19 right up to 60 and 70 years old. Also on Friday nights we’re going to start with all our import beers on sale, which is kind of unheard of. We started that on St. Patrick’s night and it was a big success.
“I know people think of us as a pub, we have a pub atmosphere and pub food, but we’re a little more upscale than that. We have a hostess, special menus and some higher priced items so we’re kind of like a classy pub with a lot of seats.”
The premises is licensed as a restaurant/bar with a liquor primary and a food primary license. Children are welcome in the first part of the building but not past the fireplace in the middle of the room, “because that’s a liquor primary,” said Leanne. “Certainly at 9 PM we see a change when the music goes up, the lights go down and the band begins to play and it turns into a bar. By that time the children are gone home.”
On Saturday nights, the Fox and Fiddle offers live entertainment, mostly with local bands but more classic rock. “The music is not too loud, but it’s nice dance music,” said Leanne. The bands start at 9 PM and the facility is open until 2 AM.
Leanne also said, “we do a lot of fund raisers, probably about two a week. This could be anything from supporting local teams to things like golf tournaments for the Leukemia Association, the Cancer Association or Putting Kids First. We try to limit the fund raisers to two a week because it requires a lot of work and it takes a lot of staff to run them.
“Our next big event is May 1 when we’re doing a bike show. It’s called Show and Shine and all the local bike shops in Langley are coming together and doing the show right here in our parking lot. We’re expecting around 300 bikes, including lots of prizes and give-aways.”
The Fox and Fiddle also offers a wide array of sports coverage. Leanne said, “we have a large group who like the soccer and the Celtic games and they’re here early in the morning. We also have a lot of suits coming in at lunch just to watch the soccer which along with rugby, golf, hockey and football are really big. So, whatever’s playing, we have it on the big screens, especially on Saturdays and Sundays.”
A daily homemade soup and sandwich special is offered and Leanne added, “we will soon be opening for breakfast on Saturday and Sundays, starting at 9 AM. We also carry a wide variety of food such as fajitas, stir frys and steaks, as well as a lot of English pub fare types of foods.”
The Fox and Fiddle has established an excellent reputation for it’s accommodating large celebrations such as weddings, Christmas parties, birthdays or anniversary parties up to 190 people. The actual seating capacity is 250 including the patio, and Leanne said there are already bookings for Christmas.
