A Children's Ceili: An Enchanting and Energetic Performance
"Like the wind blows the snow to the Winter fields,
Like the stars with their secrets revealed,
The sound of the ocean at dawn;
The light of the candle has gone,
Its life ends too soon,
But the first rays of the sun
Come shining through,
In a child's world."
- From the CD In a Child's World featuring the newly-formed North Shore Celtic Ensemble Choir.

NORTH VANCOUVER - A Children's Ceili [ceilidh], presented courtesy of a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, was held in the Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver on November 26.

| THE NORTH SHORE CELTIC ENSEMBLE, together with the Coquitlam Celtic Ensemble and the novice ensemble of fiddlers and the children’s choir, performed at A Childen’s Ceili. |
The North Shore Celtic Ensemble, together with the Coquitlam Celtic Ensemble and also featuring the newly-formed novice ensemble of fiddlers and the ensemble choir of 25 children, provided a capacity audience with two spell-binding concerts.
Energy, enthusiasm, enchanting and heart rendering - it was all there in a production that was seamless from start to finish. Opening with the honest, spontaneous laughter of children against a filmed backdrop of faces of innocence coupled with scenes of nature, this tonality set the stage affording a fresh approach into the world of The Children of the Gael.
"Wild, fast and free, as it was meant to be," the inspiration for this unique Canadian west coast production was provided by the artistic directors of the two ensembles, Claude Giguere, Jay Knutson and Rob Menzies using their own arrangements.
This versatile artistic group of musicians provide a platform of encouragement, knowledge and musical experience where each child and youth can gain through the nurturing of music, dance, voice and movement. Be it solo, duet, or trio; instruments both ancient and contemporary; this innovative twinning provides an unequalled exuberance of immeasurable and thrilling sound.
I urge and invite you to seek out their CDs and their next performance by visiting their websites: www.northshorecelticensemble.com and www.coquitlamcelticensemble.com.
