Ceol binn a bhaint as an saol! Mark December 11 in your calendar. That’s when the Wolf & Hound hosts the fourth annual Danny Burns Memorial “Feed the Hungry Benefit,” an event that raises funds to help feed the homeless and celebrates the life of a much-missed Irishman.

Hometown heroes The Paperboys do a two-night stand at the WISE Hall November 10-11. Come prepared to dance........The Battlefield Band, with a new singer, Donegal-born Sean O'Donnell who replaces Pat McBride, make a long-awaited return to Vancouver November 24 at St. James..........The young Cape Breton quartet The Cottars are on the rise. Enjoy what may be a last chance to catch them in an intimate venue December 2 at St. James..........Vancouver fiddler Paul Gitlitz launches his new CD To Have & To Hold December 10 at St. James. His band includes Cam Wilson, Karla Mundy, Cameron Stewart, Carole Berger, Rich Sobel, and Andy Hillhouse.........The December 10 "Feed the Hungry" benefit at the Wolf & Hound that features a host of talent from the local music scene starts at 5 PM. Get there early to get a good seat........Sadly, the anticipated return of Northern Irish band Craobh Rua will not take place in January. Look for them later in 2006.........Scots fiddler Alasdair Fraser and cellist Natalie Haas play February 2........The extraordinary Irish band Lúnasa are a strong possibility for February 10........ March 8 brings a fabulous double bill of Karan Casey and Flook.........Irish/ Scots duo Pipeline make their Vancouver debut on March 11........Plans are underway for a revamped Celtic Festival around St Patrick's Day with a new artistic director at the helm, the Vancouver Folk Music Festival's Dugg Simpson.

The next Irish céilí dance runs November 19 at the Victoria Drive Community Hall with live music by Vancouver Ceili Band. All steps are taught and dances called, with no partner needed and kids welcome. Details: vcn.bc.ca/ceili.........The next Scottish ceilidh dance is November 25 at the Scottish Cultural Centre. Lesson 7 PM, dance 8 PM, with all dances taught and called. Info: (604) 436-3193.........The Scottish Cultural Centre is also the venue for Scottish Country Dance classes for all levels on Monday nights from 7:30-9:30 PM.
