Celebrate the Holidays Cape Breton-Style
During her numerous tours, Rita MacNeil often refers to treasured memories of Christmas at home in Cape Breton. This year, the internationally famous singer/composer has fashioned her 2005 holiday season tour around her recollections of a Cape Breton Christmas.
The warmth and splendour of Cape Breton will come to life as Rita welcomes her guests to join her in an intimate “parlour-style” gathering of celebrated artists. This will be an evening filled with Celtic celebration, heartfelt seasonal music, along with genuine warmth.
It will feature Rita’s original holiday music – a blend of Celtic, country and gospel, including Christmas at Home and Making Merry, as featured on her most recent Christmas CD, Late December. Joining Rita on stage will be special guests The Barra MacNeils and Cape Breton tenor Peter Gillis.
With a career that now spans almost 20 years, The Barra MacNeils have appeared with Rita on television specials over the years. They can be heard on her records and are now a welcome addition to this special touring show.
This award winning family of Celtic ambassadors will offer selections from The Christmas Album including a show-stopping performance of O Holy Night as well as Carol of the Bells and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Their Celtic roots run deep and their musical artistry unparalleled.
Rounding out the evening will be a gentleman well-known to Maritimers and soon to be discovered by the rest of Canada – Peter Gillis. The tenor’s rich and expressive voice has earned him critical acclaim from audiences and critics around the world. Among the time-honoured classics will be such gems as Come To The Hills.
