Celtic Music to Soothe Your Baby

VANCOUVER - A happy baby...a sometimes fussy baby...two moms (Amy Millar and Laura Cameron)...a well-known Irish musician...18 months of hard work. All this adds up to one thing: the release of Baby Celtic, a music CD and DVD aimed at making happy.

TWO MOTHERS Laura Cameron and Amy Millar join forces to create a new CD and DVD aimed for the youngest Celts.

“My little guy is a happy-go-lucky one. Whenever he heard the music and saw the video he gurgled with happiness,” says Laura Cameron, co-founder of Baby Celtic.

“My son Danny gets a bit fussy at times and I noticed whenever I played the traditional Irish music, he would become a happy baby, smiling and paying attention to the music,” says Amy Millar, Baby Celtic’s other founder.

It is inevitable – mothers compare and talk about their babies. Amy and Laura did just that and out of that conversation Baby Celtic was born.

“Amy and I started talking and we thought why don’t we put a video together with Irish music on it and with colourful pictures and images that would appeal to babies,” says Cameron. To make a long story short, Amy talked to her dad, the well-known Irish Rover, George Millar, and he agreed to produce the music.

When Millar and Cameron took their babies shopping to select toys and props for the video, they said, “we picked based on how they responded and what kept them amused the longest.”

Millar added, “we wanted the video to be a magical learning experience for the babies. I sometimes feel there is too much emphasis on babies becoming ‘mini-geniuses’. We tend to forget that babies are just babies and most of their learning is through play.”

And the early response has been great. One mother, Jennifer Coyle said, “My two small kids just love it when they see Baby Celtic. You can tell by the way they smile that they’re into it. They are really focussed on the music and the images.”

Linda Perrault, a grandmother, said, “Whenever our grandson comes over and I want a little bit of peace and quiet, I just show him the Baby Celtic video and he is totally absorbed with it. He loves it and he can be a handful at times.”
