Canadian Celtic Harp Workshop Accommodates All Levels
VANCOUVER - The fifth Annual Celtic Harp Workshop will once again take place in metro Vancouver (Coquitlam). The weekend program of the June 4 and 5 workshop is designed to accommodate novices as well as more intermediate harpists who want to improve their playing skills.
Led by Rebecca Blair and Alys Howe, the workshop will cover diverse topics such as harp techniques, improvisation, arranging and learning by ear, left-hand development, music theory (as needed), accompanying the voice, history of Celtic music, and performing in a harp circle.
The format includes a combination of lectures, demonstrations, hands-on-work and listening. For the last hour of each of the two days there will be ensemble playing in a "harp circle."
Rebecca Blair (www.dancingharp.com) and Alys Howe (www.alyshowe.com) are experienced harp teachers and performers who have combined their classical background with improvisation. Their teaching method integrates creativity and harp technique with Celtic and Classical styles.
