Unique Dimensions to De Danaan School Feis

VANCOUVER - Scoil Rince De Danaan, the De Danaan School of Irish Dance, will host its first feis at the Best Western Richmond Inn in Richmond, B.C. on January 21 and 22.

In addition to the regular feis fare, De Danaan will offer a gamut of new choices to compliment the weekend dance competitions.

The school is proud to add a selection of Irish music workshops taught by some of the world's finest traditional Irish musicians. All Ireland fiddle champion Brian Conway and Brendan Dolan are back by popular demand after this summer’s Ceili Irish Music and Dance Camp in Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. Workshops taught by Brian and Brendan are available in fiddle, flute and piano accompaniment.

Brian Conway, Assistant District Attorney for New York City in his spare time, is an All-Ireland Fiddle Champion and has trained other All-Ireland Champs. He is well respected for his Sligo-style of fiddling.

Brendan Dolan is a well-known keyboard, flute and pennywhistle player. These two New Yorkers often perform together at concerts in North America and Europe. Be sure to take in their concert in Vancouver on January 20. For ticket information, e-mail: de_danaan@shaw.ca, or call (778) 288-5695.

De Danaan has added yet another unique dimension to the weekend event with a feis musician workshop being taught by none other than veteran feis musician, Tony Nother. If you are an Irish musician and interested in learning the ropes to play for feiseanna, this is a great opportunity.

Musicians and artists of all ages and abilities are invited to enter the Irish Music and Celtic Art competitions as well as the music workshops.

Also, be sure to look out for physiotherapist, Dan Bos, from Apollo Sport and Spine Clinic in Abbotsford. Dan will be on hand for consultations with dancers interested in fitness evaluations and injury prevention. Dan has worked extensively with Irish dancers and has developed training techniques specific to Irish dancing.

To enter competitions and workshops, register online at www.feisworx.com, e-mail Leslie Wilson at de_danaan@shaw.ca, or call (778) 288-5695.
