I want to take this moment and speak of one person in particular who not only plays a primary role in the success of the club but who has also played a significant role in my life. To this person, I am known as the wee “Miss Erin.“ I met her on a bright September evening on the pitch near the 29th Avenue sky train station. From the moment I met her, she became my big sister, offering me rides to practices and games, inviting me over for tea and a chat about game strategies. On the pitch she taught me to skillfully play the game of soccer and off the pitch through her own example, she taught me to be a genuine and good-natured person. Many of the events and fundraisers of the club are supported through the generous work of those who are willing to put in countless volunteer hours. This person is always willing to lend a hand and on many occasions has gone above and beyond the call of duty. From making sandwiches, to selling tickets and decorating, she does it all with no complaint. She is so present to the needs of others and it’s her willingness to put others first that enables those around her to feel so joyful and prominent. Her smile and laugh are contagious and her sense of humor is simply outstanding. The question is, “Who is this person I speak of?” and why have I chosen to write about her? The answer is simple: Nuala Cyr. She is someone I have the outmost respect for and in the years I’ve known her, she has never let me down. I want to take this opportunity to thank Nuala for everything she has done for the club and for me. To be inspired by someone is said to be given confidence, assurance and a feeling of wellness. I believe that for all those who are lucky to know Nuala, they feel the very same. Thank you “Miss Nuala” for being who you are, and for your continuous efforts in making the ISSC a success.
