Celtic Cross Offers Focus of Contemplation

MISSION, BC - Nestled between the small Chilqua Creek and the Cascade Mountains on the Hawkins-Pickle Road in the village of Dewdney, there is a sacred place which offers a special "Celtic corner."

ARCHBISHOP LAZAR, Abbott of the Eastern Orthodox Monastery of All Saints is shown here in the “Celtic corner.”

At the Eastern Orthodox Monastery of All Saints, visitors are welcome to sit and meditate in a small garden. Tucked away in this protected place of solitude, a Celtic cross provides a focus upon which to contemplate. In addition to the Celtic cross, pilgrims will find a relic of St. Columban which rests in the chapel together with other relics.

A lot of love and attention has gone into creating this sanctuary which is occupied by three monks who supplement their modest income with their printing press and a small beeswax candle factory. Some of their candles have been shipped as far as England, where they have been used by Buckingham Palace and the late Queen Mother.

The monastery is located six kilometres east of Mission. For more information, visit the Eastern Orthodox Monastery of All Saints at 37323 Hawkins Road in Dewdney, or call (604) 826-9336.
