CEOL AGUS CRAIC - Great Fall Concert Series Upcoming
By ERIN MULLAN
Ceol binn a bhaint as an saol! Our brief beautiful summer has evaporated, although great memories linger. A personal highlight: Canadian fiddle master Oliver Schoer trading tunes with Italian accordion whiz Filippo Gambetta in my back garden on Salt Spring Island, as Shooglenifty sound engineer and all-round gadget man Niall Macaulay recorded the proceedings on his Mac laptop via a couple of microphones hung from the clothesline.

New releases of Celtic music are a bit thin on the ground at the minute, with a couple of fine exceptions…..Irish-American guitar ace and producer John Doyle teams up with his father, traditional singer Sean Doyle, on The Light and the Half-Light, a lovely new release on Compass Records……Also from Compass is a wonderful DVD of singer Kate Rusby in concert with her band called Live from Leeds. For North American fans this may be as close as they get to seeing the Northern English lass perform as Ms. Rusby apparently hates flying…….High-flyers Shooglenifty will be putting the finishing touches on a live disc later this fall, which may end up being a double album.
