A Musical Harp Journey Through the Eyes of an Irish Immigrant

VANCOUVER - Mary Murphy a Wexford-born Irish harpist will weave her Irish harp magic at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre on March 29 and 30 when she presents Cathedral Trail.

Mary has played for kings and queens, presidents and prime ministers and to literally thousands of people all over the world. A singer, composer, pianist and player of the Irish harp, Mary evokes both laughter and tears with her music.

A life-long performer, Mary began her musical career playing piano at the age of six. She then took up the harp at the age of 11 and went on to win scholarships in London, New York and at the Irish Academy of Music.

Beginning her career in Ireland as a featured singer and harpist with the famous Bunratty Castle singers, she has performed for radio, television, heads of state in Canada, the United States, France, Australia, Ireland, and Japan, in such prestigious venues as the White House, Lincoln Centre and the Press Club in Washington, DC.

Mary will enchant everyone during her concert entitled Cathedral Trail, performing everything from traditional Irish folk songs in her native Gaelic to modern pop songs. Drawing upon a diverse pool of talent, her melodies evoke Celtic, contemporary, New Age and folk sounds. Her voice is gentle and lyrical while her harp playing is as impressive to watch as it is to listen to.

Don’t miss Mary Murphy’s poignant Cathedral Trail at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre, on March 29 and 30. It is an Irish history lesson and a musical harp journey through the eyes of an Irish immigrant. See page 7 of this issue for details.
