Anniversary Celebration Plans Underway for Cambrian Hall

By EIFION WILLIAMS

VANCOUVER - Plans are well under way for the Welsh Society’s celebrations marking the 75th Anniversary of the Cambrian Hall.

The Grand Concert, to be held on the evening of November 6 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 2881 Main Street will feature the Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir and a guest soloist. (Dr. Eifion Thomas, who had been invited to sing at the concert, has had to cancel his appearance due to ill health.)

The Gymanfa Ganu (hymn-singing fellowship) to be held on the afternoon of November 7, is always a popular event with the Vancouver Welsh community and this year will be even more so because of the 75th Anniversary celebrations. Preceding the Gymanfa, a bilingual church service will be held in the Cambrian Hall Lower Hall at 11 AM, followed by a light lunch.

A number of acts have already been lined up for the November 5 Noson Lawen (variety night). The master of ceremonies for the evening will be David Lintern of Victoria. On November 6, from 11 AM to 2 PM, there will be an Open House at the Cambrian Hall where guests are invited to socialize at the Red Dragon and partake of a Ploughman’s Lunch. A variety of Welsh entertainment is planned, including a reading of a Dylan Thomas short story by Duncan storyteller David Holmes.

As a foretaste of the November celebrations the Welsh Society’s Anniversary dinner will be held on the evening of October 16 at the Cambrian Hall. Those wishing to attend should contact Gaynor Evans at (604) 271-3134 as soon as possible as space is limited.
