All-Ireland Telecast
The last of the live telecasts of Gaelic Football games from Ireland will be the All-Ireland Football Final between Mayo and Kerry at 7:30 AM on September 26. The Minor Final, Kerry v Tyrone, will also be shown live at 5:30 AM, both at the Irish Emigrant, University Way NE at 52nd St, telephone (206) 525-2955.
Matt Talbot Golf
The Annual Matt Talbot Center Golf Tournament will be at 9:30 AM on October 12, at the Harbour Pointe Golf Club in Mukilteo. Named after the Dublin saint, the Matt Talbot Center is a downtown Seattle day center for the homeless, and a counseling center for drug and alcohol addictions. Irish Language School
Fall classes on Monday nights, 7-9 PM, from October 4 to December 13, at 12600 NE 85th Street, Kirkland. The course, consisting of 10 evening classes, is for students who have never been exposed to the Irish language. Students learn pronunciation, practical expressions, and basic grammar. Samhain Harps

New Citizens
Lara Bradley, a journalist with the Irish Independent in Dublin, is writing an article about new Irish citizens and is trying to find someone who has recently obtained Irish citizenship through marriage. US Visa Info
From September 1, all U.S. visa holders are being fingerprinted upon departure or exit from Seattle and some 12 other U.S. airports. The visa holder's passport and fingerprints will be screened at an automated booth to provide a departure card that is necessary to board the plane. You cannot board a flight without the departure card. As of October 1, all visitors to the U.S., including those on the 90-day visa waiver, will be fingerprinted upon entry at all airports, and on exit at Seattle and the 12 other airports. This system will provide U.S. Immigration with definite records of entry and exit, and will be used to prove instances of overstay.

Con Walsh
Dave Hannigan, an Irish sports journalist, is researching a book about Cork sportsmen, one of whom was Con Walsh who won bronze at the 1908 Olympics in the Hammer Throw, and also played in an All Ireland Gaelic Football final for Cork. Hannigan believes Walsh became a police chief or inspector in Seattle in the 1920s or early 1930s and wonders if anyone has additional information. If so, please contact Daveyhannigan@aol.com.
Martin Court
A new Home for the Homeless called “Martin Court” was dedicated last month in honor of local Irishman Joe Martin. Joe has been an advocate for Seattle's homeless for many, many years and in his spare time he is also an accomplished Irish musician and singer with local group Claypipe. The home is a 42-unit apartment complex that will serve as transitional housing for up to two years as tenants make the transition off the streets into permanent housing.
