The Druid South is a Huge Addition to Chain of Three Edmonton Pubs

EDMONTON - The Druid South in Edmonton, isn't just big ...it's huge! Owner, manager, Jay Wright said, "with the patio, we can hold 600 people...it's big enough to put in an Irish showband. During the world cup soccer, we had a 6,000 square foot tent in our parking lot and between the pub and the tent, we had 1,600 people watching the games".

Jay Wright has Belfast roots and lots of experience in running Irish pubs. The Druid South has only been opened as a pub since March, and before that it was a nightclub. Wright said, “this location is really, really big and it’s not like running anything else, so we do things on a bit of a grander scale.”
The Druid South is one of a chain of three pubs, the other two are: The Druid on Jasper Avenue and O’Byrne’s Pub on Whyte Avenue.
One really unique feature at The Druid South is the travelling bus which can be rented for parties, hockey games, soccer, football games, stags or you name it events. It is also very convenient on a pub crawl between the chain of three pubs. The bus holds about 45 people and a special liquor license is obtained for each event. The great thing about having a party on the bus is you don’t have to worry about a designated driver.
Jay said, “we will also be showing all the world cup of hockey games on our big screens, and hopefully all the NHL hockey games this year...if there is no lock-out.” The opening game of world hockey started on August 30 and no doubt, there will be special interest in Edmonton, since Wayne Gretzky is the Team Canada executive director.
Gretzky was a well-known and loved member of the Edmonton Oilers hockey team in the dynasty days, when Edmonton won Stanley Cup after Stanley Cup, bringing great glory to the capital city. There is even a street named after him in Edmonton.
