Skagit Valley Highland Games Returns for Tenth Year

MOUNT VERNON, WA - The Skagit Valley Highland Games and Scottish Faire returns for the tenth year to Mount Vernon, Washington, on July 10 and 11, with two full days of Celtic games, spectator sports, dancing, food, and music for everyone in the family.

This colorful and exciting outdoor event celebrates Scottish and Irish culture and heritage, but by no means do you need to be Scottish to join in the festivities. Special events include Highland dancing, bagpiping, Celtic harp and Scottish fiddle competitions, sheep dog trials and traditional Scottish athletic events such as the tossing of the caber, a telephone pole-sized log.

There will also be spinning and weaving demonstrations, Scottish country dancing, Scottish and Irish bands playing throughout the day, and booth-upon-booth of Celtic arts and crafts. Plus, there's a children's area where kids can try their hand at mini-caber tossing and building a cardboard box castle. For grown-ups there's a fabulous beer garden on-site with freshly made microbrews.

The two day festival is set along the Skagit River, at Edgewater Park, just a short mile from the I-5 freeway, and about one hour north of Seattle and one hour south of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Cost for a full-day pass is $8 on Saturday and $6 on Sunday with special rates for a weekend pass. Children under five are free. VISA and Mastercard accepted. Parking is free and picnickers are welcome along with pets on a leash.
